Country Song of the Week

This one's for my dad...

Tough Little Boys ..( Gary Allan )

I never once, backed down from a punch.
I'd take it square on the chin.
Well I found out fast a bully's just that
And you got to stand up to him.

So I didn't cry when I got a black eye
As bad as it hurt I just grinned.
But when tough little boys grow up to be Dads
They turn into big babies again.

Scared me to death when took your first steps,
Well I'd fall everytime you fell down.
Your first day of school, I cried like a fool,
And I followed your school bus to town.

Well I didn't cry when ol Yeller died
At least not in front of my friends.
But when tough little boys grow up to be
Dads they turn into big babies again.

Well I'm a grown man but as strong as I am.
Well sometimes it's hard to believe,
One little girl with little blonde curls
Can totally terrify me.

If you were to ask my wife would just laugh ,
She'd say I know all about men.
How tough little boys grow up to be Dads
They turn into big babies again.

Well I know one day I'll give you away
And I'm gonna stand there and smile.
When I get home and I'm all alone,
I'll sit in your room for awhile.

Well I didn't cry when ole Yeller died
At least not in front of my friends.
But when tough little boys grow up to be
Dads they turn into big babies again.
When tough little boys grow up to be
Dads they turn into big babies again.

Playing House

Adam and I moved our things into our new apartment this weekend. It was an odd experience--both real and surreal. Merging our possessions reinforced the reality of the fact that we really are getting married in less than two weeks. At the same time, setting up the apartment felt a bit like make believe, as if we were just playing house.

It was also a lot of fun. We both have pack rat tendencies with each of us having about a dozen shoe boxes and albums filled with pictures and sentimental scraps. We were a bit freaked out to discover that we both had the exact same journal as our first journal. And the merging of books was quite a task. We have about 400 between the two of us and spent a good chunk of time unpacking and organizing them into categories. As of right now, it seems that the policy will be that most of Adam's things will find a home on or around the desk in the the guest bedroom/office (except, of course, the Alabama paraphanalia that seems to have been "misplaced").

I'm back at my parents house until the wedding, which means internet access for two weeks! I'll blog again soon...

Five Hours Late
I'm back in Atlanta...barely. Actually, I've been here for two weeks--two weeks of non-stop appointments, shopping, and to-do lists for the wedding.

It all began on June 5th. I had been traveling from the village for 20 hours and had only 30 minutes left of my last leg (Chicago to Atlanta). Then...the pilot clicked on the PA, "I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the electrical problem has deteriorated and we are going to need to make an emergency landing in Nashville." Groggy passengers enjoying extra space on the nearly empty 6:30am flight, sat up and began following the instructions for landing. The landing was smooth and normal except for the emergency vehicles lining the runway. I don't think I've ever had a normal trip to Alaska. The airline ended up chartering a bus and driving us 4 hours to Atlanta. So I think I'm going to blame American Airlines for my current stress. If I hadn't been so late getting home, I would probably have everything done by now...

I feel like I've been going non-stop ever since then. I never imagined how many details went into planning a wedding. Things are going well and we are especially blessed by all of the friends and family who are beings so supportive in sharing their talents and time to help make this happen! It is truly going to be a community event. Sorry for the lack of posts. I'll be moving back in with my folks until the wedding, so perhaps there will be more posts soon!
