Wedding Planning Part One

Although I don't want to turn this into a blog about the wedding, the fact is that planning is consuming my life much more than I would like to admit right now. Blogging about it is therefore inevitable.

I have a few fatal flaws that are thus far impairing my ability to plan this wedding. First of all, I'm terrible when it comes to making decisions. Apparently, weddings involve numerous--colors, dress styles, invitations, food, music, locations, etc. Secondly, I know nothing about fashion. When asked what I'm looking for at a dress shop, not only do I have no idea (because I never let myself think about it), but even if I had an idea, I don't have the vocabulary to describe it. Finally, ever since college, I have had a strong aversion to shopping--generally, it makes me tired, gives me a headache, and causes me to whine profusely. I can only tolerate about two dress shops per outing before requiring a nap. Some people may not see these traits as flaws in and of themselves, but in the context of wedding planning, they are not good. Please pray for me as I continue to search for a bridesmaids dress that is attractive, affordable, and able to be shipped within the month.

No Apples
I've never had a student bring me an apple. I've gotten mint oreos (my fave), candy bars, and today (for the second time) I got coffee beans! I love my students...

Airbrush

Apparently, airbrushed shirts are cool again. I knew we should have gotten one in PC two years ago. Unfortunately, I was too cheap and settled on the Henna tattoo that washed off three days later.

So...we're back at school, and the halls are filled with dark tans, neon T-shirts, and stories of drunken escapades at the beach. It amazes me how some things never change. I've never seen so many tan people (from the beach or tanning bed) as we have here at LHS. There is hope for the future generations, however. Several of my students have been excitedly sharing with me their stories from spring break mission trips. Apparently, not everyone spent their break concertedly trying to kill brain cells.

Although Lassiter culture has changed very little over the years, I felt my age a bit today as I reviewed research skills with my students. One of the basic skills was "Identifying key words" and "Using authoritative sources." As I discussed this with them, I realized that a) they all knew how to do key word searches because they grew up with the internet and b) I was never expected to do this in high school because we never used the internet for research. During my senior year, I got online all of once for the purpose of printing pictures of Brad Pitt; my friend Lauren was one of the few who had dial-up access at the time--it took FOREVER! Now, I can't imagine teaching, doing research, or taking a class without the internet. Wow. Either things change quickly or I'm old. I think I'll go with the former rather than the latter.

OK. I think I've rambled enough for today. I'm sorry about the spring break hiatus. I had limited access to the internet and, well, not much was going on. I stayed in town, drank coffee, and avoided grading 118 freshmen persuasive essays (yikes!). Good times.
